You ever look through your closet and find that you have way over purchased one print or color? Well if that print is black and white stripes, I am here to help you out with 9 different looks featuring the monochromatic print.

striking in stripes modest outfit lookbook and outfit ideasToday I am compiling and looking back at some of my favorite moments in black and white stripes.

I have a few patterns that I wear a lot, and stripes is definitely one of them as well as floral print and polka dots.

Black and white prints are so easy on a grab and go day. They go with every color or you can always just throw on a black cardigan or top and still feel pretty and put together. I have mentioned before that getting dressed helps me to feel motivated. Guarantee if you find me in my pajamas at 10am I have not gotten anything done. It’s good to have some basic pieces that mix together fast and easy for hectic days.

old navy black and white striped dress with black cardigan easy modest outfitThis knee length dress is from Old Navy, and hit me right at the knee. I’m just over 5’3″ so it is a bit easier for me to find dresses that hit me at the length that I prefer. I have no idea what the struggles are of a tall person.

Necklace: Rue21

Shoes: Maurices

polka dot chambray with black and white stripe a line skirt, modest outfit ideaI don’t know where to start with this look. This really affordable polka dot chambray top is from Walmart. They have really stepped up there style game. We’re most all going to be at Walmart at some point, and if you find yourself there, then you must at least walk through the clothing section, they have some gems.

I love skirts, I am really trying to branch out to more dresses, but I’m truly a #skirtgirl all the way.

Boots on repeat from Maurices and a simple white bib necklace from Burke’s outlet to complete this look.

red and black and gold nail artI attempted to do some buffalo plaid with my nails, which completely failed. However the finished product was still cute enough to share, even if it didn’t end up looking exactly like what I was going for.

Layered my striped top underneath a black blazer (Walmart) and my gorgeous statement necklace (Rue21).

suede hat, striped tee, statement necklace and denim skirt, for an easy dressed up denim look, modest outfitI do love to accessorize so I added this great cuff from Burke’s outlet and leopard print heels from Poshmark. I love Poshmark, so many great finds on that site. Poshmark has a lot of previously used women’s clothing, handbags and purses. They even have designer names if you are into that.

Make sure if you are shopping on Poshmark you use my code “PDSMN” when you download the app to save $10 off your first purchase. I got these leopard print lovelies for only $8 on Poshmark.

Hat is from Loft Outlet, which I purchased during a great store wide sale.

easy modest dressy denim lookEven without the hat I really loved everything about this look. I love dark washed denim and this skirt is my favorite denim skirt from Cato Fashions.

black and white striped maxi with burgundy/maroon and camel cardiganI like to wear maxi skirts when I am planning a day of being out and about with my children. Wore this to teach the little 3 and 4 year old Sunday evening class at my church, and as I recall stayed all clean that evening.

easy, casual, modest. burgundy and camel with black and whiteThis burgundy cap sleeve top is from loft and actually has a  zipper at the back collar. My camel colored cardigan came from my go to place for cardigans New York and Company outlet. They always have cardigans in an array of colors.

easy, simple black and white striped maxi with burgundy/maroon and camel cardiganStriped maxi was a wishlist item from an trip to J. Crew. I could not stop thinking about this skirt. It wasn’t on the list of things I was planning on purchasing that day so I left it behind. Later though, I was able to get it with a coupon during a sale (yay!) and I really love it.

Added my favorite bow pendant necklace from Kohl’s and some beaded bracelets to complete this look.

Kate spade, black and white stripes and red and black buffalo plaid outfit inspoOkay guys can we talk about Poshmark again? I love Coach and Michael Kors, but I was really wanting a Kate Spade bag. I went looking at the Kate Spade website and then at my wallet and decided that it was okay to love things we would never own haha.

After explaining to my husband about the Poshmark app, I had showed him the Kate Spade bag I wanted was even on their! Still a little bit out of my price range, but still nearly half of what Kate Spade had it listed for on clearance. It ended up costing less than my slightly smaller bag from Coach outlet.

Did I mention that you save $10 when you download the Poshmark app and enter my code “PDSMN” ?! I hope you check it out and find something amazing.

simple, easy modest outfit idea, black peter pan collar top with aztec black and white striped skirtThis is starting to seem like a serious problem, cause I’m hooked on saving money. This skirt is from too. Yes, really. They have such great stuff at such great prices, and it is always so unique and different from what you see at brick and mortar retail places. I don’t know, I like being the only girl with the things I have in my closet.

Except for you guys, I want you to also have all the things. So head over to Jane and see what you love.

black and white striped tee shirt dress with mint cardigan sweater, teacher outfit ideaThis striped dress is so gorgeous, and current and should be appearing on Jane a few more times as per usual with that lovely site. They often have things 3 or 4 times a season so if you love something and you missed it, it may not be too late. I often check the sneak peaks on the Jane app (they become available around 4pm eastern time) so that I know to shop early if they are going to be selling something that I like.

This striped dress is actually charcoal and white and is short sleeve and light weight and I love, love, love it.

Get all the details on this lovely dress on the full blog post HERE. Striped dress from Jane Review.

Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to come back tomorrow, when I will be featuring a great swing dress that will be available at one of my favorite discount clothing site for only a few days.

Dreaming of Flamingo
Outfit Idea

flamingo and stripes easy pattern mixingFlamingo print was one trend I did not get my hands on this summer. I try to do all my shopping early and all at once. So if I don’t find something, sometimes it means I just don’t get to have it.

I didn’t spot this Flamingo top until someone on the Modern Modest Facebook Group asked if she could pair flamingo print with stripes. So I went looking for some pictures and came across this little piece of gorgeousness.

Recently found an Ebay seller with these listed, and I saw at least 2 people who purchased the item who left positive reviews.

Still I am always a little bit skeptical of things that seem too good to be true. The cost for the top on Ebay is $18 plus $8 to ship. It is so close to fall, so I’m not sure I’ll buy this fabulous chiffon style, button up.

So I just thought I’d share this outfit idea with you.

Target has a striped skirt for only $17, I have one and I love it, one of my favorite summer purchases. Just thinking, it would go great with this flamingo top.

I guess we will all have to wait to find out it I buy this or not (including me). I will just have to add it to my Pinterest closet in the meantime. Honestly, owning clothes virtually is so much cheaper.

I’m pretty sure if I bought every item I loved on Pinterest I’d be poor in a month. Sometimes it is nice to style outfits even if you don’t own them anyway.

Summer Style Share
Bright in Yellow Summer Look Book

It is already August and I still have so many outfits to share with you from this wonderful summer.

One of my friends posted a picture on Facebook saying it is only 5 weeks until pumpkin everything. I did not like that. I am very much for being in the moment. I am not neglecting the present, but I don’t want to spend all of my present planning and worrying for a future I am not promised. That’s just me.

I don’t say my kids are “almost x” when it is still 2 months until their birthday. I want to enjoy the time when they are the age they are currently, every moment of it. I don’t like saying it is nearly September when it is still the first week of August! Let’s just enjoy August. I am planning on having a lovely sun shining type of September for my first one in South Carolina so I’m thinking that it will still feel like summer (to me at least) for all of September anyway.

For those of you who are still enjoying these warm summer days as I am sharing some of my looks from this summer featuring yellow. I love wearing bright colors and I have heard many say that they just don’t know how to wear them.

Here is my favorite way to wear bright yellow or mustard yellow; with black and white or neutrals.

1. Add a yellow cardigan over a black and white printed maxi dress.

black and white maxi dress with pop of yellow cardigan; modest outfit idea -smartandsavvymom.comLet’s start with my favorite. I found this black and white maxi dress at Ross Dress For Less in June when I was building up my summer wardrobe. This dress was priced around $12 and I was so excited even though I didn’t know how I would style it, but what a great deal for such a great price.

One of the main ways I have been adding color to my wardrobe is through some great colorful cardigans I set out to find. I bought three from New York and Company including this great yellow one featured in this look.

In the above picture I was spending a long Saturday out shopping and then taking my kids to a birthday party so I went with simple flats.

2. Mustard patterned top with simple black pencil skirt.

Mustard top with black pencil style maxi skirt, easy modest summer outfit ideaThis is a great stay at home outfit for me. Honestly, the necklace doesn’t usually last the whole day, but this is a great casual summer look.

This mustard top was another frugal find. I found this top in the clearance section at Ann Taylor Loft Outlet store for $4.99 and bought it and saved it for this summer. I don’t even think that I wore it one time last summer. Still for the price it was exciting to have a great piece from a great store. If you have ever shopped clearance you know that the best prices are to be had on pieces that are currently out of season.

mustard yellow top with black maxi pencil skirt modest summer outfit ideaStyled it again with just a simple necklace change. I believe I wore this both times to Sunday night church. It is hot here in South Carolin (I know I keep saying that, but I have not fully adjusted yet) and this outfit was a great option when the temps got sky high.

3. Colorful, bright cardigan over a black solid tee shirt

black and white striped maxi skirt with black top and bright yellow cardigan modest summer outfit ideaI know shoes are a great finishing touch to any outfit, but often being a stay at home mom does not involve high heel shoes. I prefer to believe all the research on how high heels are bad for your feet to absolve me of any guilt on saving them for special occasion. Besides, I stand by these sketchers they are so fabulous comfortable and great quality shoes.

black and white striped maxi skirt with pop of yellow. Adding color to your summer wardrobe

Adding the cardigan over a solid black tee shirt (this one is from Target) was a great contrast to the yellow cardigan. This style maxi skirt is widely available and even easily transitions to winter. I see ladies wearing it all the time with a simple black tee and nothing else. Adding a cardigan is a very easy way to make this look more interesting, depending on how warm it will be wherever you will be that day.

4. Pattern Mixing with brights and neutrals

Easy pattern mixing, yellow star print top with polka dot print pencil skirt, easy modest outfit ideaThis skirt is neutral colors and the polka dots are very small which makes it great for easy pattern mixing. This starfish print top is a washed out white, so even though the starfish are large they are still subtle. This is probably my favorite pattern mixing look of the summer.

star print top and polka dot skirt, easy summer pattern mixingThese flats from Shoe Carnival are by Blowfish Shoes and were a pretty great staple of my summer wardrobe. They will probably be the only pair of shoes I bought this summer that I wore so much I will actually have to replace them next summer. Loved these shoes, and I am still loving them until I wear them out.

4. Add a pop of color to a neutral colored dress

neutral print dress with pop of mustard easy modest summer outfit ideaThis dress is a great neutral color and print. You are probably not going to be shocked when I tell you that I bought this on clearance for less than $20 from Kohl’s maybe 2 summers ago.

The brown in this dress is what makes it work with the pop of yellow and is why I would not go as well with some other colors like blue. This pattern reminds me a lot of leopard print so most colors that go with leopard print will work with dress.

Adding a colorful cardigan or blazer to a dress is a great way to change up the look of it and get more wears out of a piece.

This summer I have been wearing a ton of black and white stripes, yellow, ad mint. What are your favorite colors to wear this summer?
